“How Did We Get Here?”
Adobe Photoshop E-Tivity in Microsoft Teams
This E-Tivity is a collaborative Virtual Instructor-led experience set in Stage 1 of Gilly Salmon’s 5 stage model for E-Tivities. It makes use of Microsoft Teams’ Adobe integration and whiteboard function.
Learners in groups of 3-4 work on an image in Photoshop to achieve the same result (for example, removing colour everywhere except a focal point) using two different methods, recording their methods. They use Microsoft Teams whiteboard to plan their process.
Learning Outcomes
1. Learner uses Photoshop adaptively to achieve a design outcome
2. Learner can discuss their working process in Photoshop with colleagues
3.. Learner records their working process in Photoshop to improve efficiency
4. Learner can work collaboratively in Microsoft Teams to complete a task
Introduction
The learners will be shown a screencast demonstration of Photoshop tools that will be useful for the activity and to promote access throughout the course. During this they will be encouraged to ask questions, and given an invitation (pictured on the right) to remind them of what to accomplish during the task.
Microsoft Teams Integration
This is a good choice for this activity because learners will not need to transfer to other platforms to speak with the instructor, make plans as a team or work on their Photoshop file collaboratively. At the completion of the E-Tivity, learners may partake in a poll through Microsoft Teams to make improvements to the activity in the future and allow the instructor to see which learners may need additional support.
Stage 1 of the 5 Stage Model
This activity is designed to be a gentle and interesting introduction to the software to improve access for students as they progress further in the course.
Social constructivism
There is no '“correct answer” in this activity, learners work together to come to a consensus. The task provided to learners is ill-defined to provide an experience authentic to what learners would come across outside of the course.
